ETHANOL
Industrial innovation and development are fundamental to the strategy of the Compagnie Sucrière Sénégalaise, making it a major player in the national economy and a leader in the sugar industry in West Africa.
Thus, in its diversification dynamic and to support the Senegalese government in its energy policy, CSS has invested in a distillery: an industrial unit for the production of ethanol with a capacity of 60,000 liters/day from molasses, which is a by-product of the sugar-making process.
With a production process based around the fermentation and distillation-rectification processes, the Distillery records year-on-year growth in its activities with:
- An annual production of 13 million liters of superfine alcohol supported by the noticeable improvement in the performance indicators of the industrial units;
- The valorization, in collaboration with a local company, of the high purity CO2 generated by fermentation into a food product for the carbonation of soft drinks and the preservation of food in air transport, among others.
- The extension of molasses storage capacity from 1,000 to 15,000 tons thus increasing our production potential
- And the construction of an ethanol storage and delivery site located at more than 2 Km from the current industrial complex, with a capacity of more than 6 million litres, in the wake of the KT200 project, in order to:
– improve the environmental compliance of the company in terms of respect of environmental, safety and societal requirements.
– reduce the risk of fires/explosions on the expanding industrial complex and the surrounding populations.
The sugar refinery extension projects and the current context open up new development prospects for the Distillery in terms of:
- Increase in its production capacities in a sub-regional market with strong growth potential,
- Energy and agronomic valorization of vinasse, which is a by-product of distillation,
- And the rehabilitation of the bioethanol production unit for carburization and thus contribute to the energy and environmental component of the PSE (Plan for an Emerging Senegal).
